The LA Clippers reportedly have an interest in Chicago Bulls’ power forward Thaddeus Young. This report comes via the LA Times in an article exploring the trade value of Maurice Harkless.
The article notes that if the Clippers do pull off a trade for a player like Young, Harkless’ salary is likely going to be used to make a trade work.
Trading Young for Harkless straight up does work according to the ESPN Trade Machine. While the team could also include a pick (they can still trade this year’s first-rounder), adding young guard Jerome Robinson to the deal still makes the numbers work.
Young is in the first year of a three year contract. On the season for the Bulls, he’s putting up 8.8 points on 39.7% shooting from the field (32.4% from deep), 4.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steals. He’s doing this all on just 21.8 minutes per game.
Young stands only 6’8″ making him an undersized power forward, but he would fit in well next to both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers’ very switchable starting unit.
This move seems to be sort of a lateral move though as Harkless has been solid for the team. Doc Rivers has cited multiple times that Harkless will get the assignment of guarding the other team’s top player so that Kawhi and PG can focus a little more on the offensive end.
As the LA Times says, the Clippers will likely have Harkless attached to any trade rumors in the coming months. We will keep an eye on all the possible trade rumors as they continue to come in, so make sure to follow us on Twitter and to check back here often!
