Three takeaways from the LA Clippers’ overtime win over Boston Celtics
The LA Clippers are beating good teams
The Los Angeles Lakers (12-2) and Boston Celtics (11-3) are currently the leaders in their respective conferences. Only one team has beaten both of them so far this season.
Did you guess which team that is? Did you say the LA Clippers? Because that’s correct.
The Clippers have had one of the league’s most difficult schedules to kick their season off, and yet they’ve still managed to win 10 of their first 15. That’s with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard playing just one game together as well, and with Landry Shamet sidelined, we still can’t say that this team has been fully healthy yet this season.
In addition to the Lakers and Celtics, the Clippers also have quality wins over the Utah Jazz, Portland Trail Blazers (second night of a back-to-back) and the Toronto Raptors.
Admittedly, the Clippers have dropped a few winnable games, and that’s been the cause of some frustration among the fan base. But we need to keep in mind that this team hasn’t had all of its closers on the floor until Wednesday night and that it’s still very early in the season. Early season mistakes can come back to haunt them, but it’s hard to imagine the Clippers making those same mistakes once they’ve gotten more familiar with each other.
Things should begin to clear up next month. The Clippers will embark on an Eastern Conference road trip that includes games against the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls, and will play just two back-to-backs (compared to the four they’ll play in October/November).
The LA Clippers will get another shot against a tough team this Friday, when they host the Houston Rockets a little more than a week after losing to them on the road.
