2. Shai Can’t Miss

3/30/19 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

22 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal

This game versus Cleveland wasn’t his season-high nor his best field goal percentage night, but he shot so well, especially considering the volume. Add in the eight assists and it’s easy to see why this was one of his top moments.

On the March night versus Cleveland, SGA hit 9 of his 12 shots, which included going a perfect 3 of 3 from deep. 75% from the field is impressive, regardless of the quality of the opponent. This game was also his second consecutive 20+ point effort.

This game came in the midst of the Clippers’ hottest month of the season. The team went 13-2 in March and Shai was a huge Joseph Raya-Ward part of that. Right after the month ended, talked about just how good Shai had been:

"Shai was aggressive in March, taking nearly 20 more shots in the restricted area than he did in the previous two months respectively, while shooting nearly 65% on those attempts. He has also shown a newfound command and confidence in his jumper. He shot 42.8% from the corners and has been on fire from above the break, shooting over 72%. He is also shooting nearly 64% on step-backs, while taking nearly three times as many of those shots as he had the previous two months combined. This version of Shai, while accounting for the shooting to come back down to earth a little, is vital to the Clippers’ hopes to escape the first round of the playoffs. He would add another layer to an already powerful offense, after showing his ability to score at all three levels of a defense."

It makes sense that he shot so well in this game, with so many of his shots coming from the paint. Shai already had a great sense of how to use his height and length to attack the basket.

As Joseph noted, Shai’s growth was vital to the Clippers’ success in the playoffs. This brings us to his top moment of the season.
