Three takeaways from the LA Clippers’ win over the Toronto Raptors
LA grabs all the rebounds
The LA Clippers didn’t score in bunches in their win over the Raptors, but they did haul in a season-high 66 rebounds, 20 of which came off the offensive glass. Toronto, on the other hand, recorded just 38 — and they’ve been one of the league’s better rebounding teams to this point.
Patrick Beverley led the way with 12, which is always absurd considering his size. It was the third time this season that he’s hauled in 10 or more rebounds in a single game, despite standing just an inch over six feet.
JaMychal Green tied Beverley with 12 boards of his own, five of which were offensive. On a night when he didn’t have his best shooting performance (3-11 from the floor, 0-5 from three), he was still able to make a positive contribution. Through the first 10 games of the season, he’s averaging 6.3 rebounds in roughly 22 minutes per game.
Also big on the glass was Kawhi Leonard, who grabbed 11 rebounds on the night. ‘Board Man’ has taken that aspect of his game to new heights so far this season, averaging a career-high 8.5 per game. He’s grabbed double-digit boards in three of his last four performances.
Montrezl Harrell rounded out the group of four that all grabbed at least 11 or more rebounds for the Clippers. Like Green, Harrell was active on the offensive glass as well, pulling in three offensive rebounds.
Lastly, Ivica Zubac had the most efficient night on the glass, grabbing nine boards in 16 minutes of action.
Despite grabbing so many offensive rebounds, though, the Clippers struggled to score second-chance points. LA had just 15 of those on 5-of-17 shooting.
Plenty of those shots were rushed, so if there’s no easy bucket available underneath in those situations, LA should focus on passing it back out to the perimeter and setting the offense back up.
