Clippers Slack Chat: Kawhi Leonard resting shouldn’t upset everyone
Back in my day…
Ryan: So let’s address the Twitter trolls, Cannon. I’m going to throw some of the logic I’ve seen online at you and I want you to respond.
First up, we’ll go with Mark Jackson last night. Not sure if you saw me ranting on Twitter about him or not from the Clipperholics profile, but he was doing the classic “Players didn’t rest in my day!” shtick.
Seth: Wasn’t Larry Bird in traction and have his career cut short because he played on a bum back?
Ryan: I believe so.
Cannon: That’s the classic “I lived in the 1960s and will always be superior to you” take. Old heads like to think they grew up in a tougher world, whereas in reality, they had no idea what was going on.
Ryan: So, it’s “Ok Boomer” personified.
Cannon: Exactly. It’s the same kind of thing we see in GOAT conversations. “I watched Michael Jordan live, therefore, no one will ever be better than him” is a common take by similar people. Both are shallow and reek of ignorance.
Seth: I would also note that during Mark Jackson’s time, the pace was somewhere around 90-95 possessions per 48 minutes. Last year we were at 100, and so far this year we’re at 102.6. The game is faster.
