The LA Clippers have reportedly exercised Jerome Robinson’s third-year option, bringing him back through the 2020-2021 season.

According to The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, the LA Clippers have reportedly picked up Jerome Robinson‘s third-year option for the 2020-2021 season. The second-year guard, who was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, will earn $3.7 million in his third NBA season.

Robinson has yet to fully blossom for the Clippers, recording just 3.4 points per game on 40.0 percent shooting during his rookie year. That said, his outlook was always centered on his long-term upside rather than the short-term. So while he may not be a key piece of the rotation just yet, he’s getting all the experience he can in order to become one in the near future — whether that’s with LA or not.

Robinson has been on the floor for just six minutes so far this season, connecting on one of his three shots in that time.

The 22-year-old did have an impressive preseason, highlighted by some solid performances against the Shanghai Sharks, Melbourne United and Dallas Mavericks. He looked like a much more aggressive scorer in those games and looked the part of a viable playmaker as well.

That said, Robinson still needs some time before he can play meaningful minutes for a team that has its sights set on an NBA title. He’s got promising two-way potential, but still needs to work on his scoring efficiency and reduce the number of fouls he commits on defense.

Luckily, Robinson has some of the best veterans in the game to learn from. Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley and Rodney McGruder can all help him reach his potential on both ends of the floor and teach him some of their best moves.

Even though we may not see Robinson at his best this season, he’s got a third season with the Clippers coming next year, as well as a fourth if LA chooses to pick up the option.

The Clippers also picked up fellow second-year guard Landry Shamet‘s option today, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Because he was taken later in the first round of the 2018 Draft, Shamet is only due $2.1 million in his third season.

Robinson and Shamet’s options were the only team options on the roster for next season, meaning the LA Clippers will be able to shift their focus to their upcoming free agents Maurice Harkless, Patrick Patterson and Montrezl Harrell once this year comes to a close.
