ESPN had both Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo as their top players in the NBA. Former player Matt Barnes says Kawhi is number one.

The LA Clippers made some franchise-changing moves in the offseason and while they have not stepped foot on the court, the buzz is buzzing. After the release of ESPN ‘s Top Players list, Matt Barnes believes Kawhi Leonard is the top player in the game.

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are newcomers to the LA Clippers, but with the lowly time of the NBA off-season, people are getting creative with “Top Lists.” Whether it’s an all-time list or just top players in the game now. With those lists become discussions and with most discussions between #NBATwitter, it’s bound to cause articles like this and many others bashing how the list shook out.

ESPN is releasing their top players in waves and with LeBron James ringing at number three, this only leaves spots for either Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kawhi Leonard. On “The Jump” on Thursday, Rachel Nichols asked Matt Barnes who he thought was the number one player. Barnes, an NBA Champion and former Clipper, was quick to state, Kawhi as the number one player. Given some holes in Giannis’ game, calling Leonard the best two-way player and the number one player in the league at the moment.

While ESPN copped out with there being no real winner, it’s nice to see Leonard get the respect from people who cover the league. No matter where Leonard ends on the list, it is nice to see a Clipper player fighting for the top spot.

These lists mean nothing in the grand scheme of things because the Clippers as a team will try to end as the number one team in the league come June. It’s fun for the fans to rank the players and see where people view their favorite players. These lists are all subjective, they are made to get people talking.
