Analyzing the list of offseason acquisitions for the LA Clippers
The New and Talented Staff
Some confirmed additions to the organization this offseason are former Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue, former Raptors assistant coach Jeremy Castleberry, former 76ers strength and conditioning director Todd Wright, former Magic physical therapist Maggie Bryant, and Jerry West’s son, Ryan West. Lue is now the assistant coach to his good friend in Doc Rivers, Jeremy Castleberry will be both an assistant coach and part of player development, Wright will be another assistant coach and the VP of player performance, Bryant will be the director of rehabilitation, and West will be a scout.
All of these new staff members have their upsides, but the most intriguing additions of the mix would definitely be Tyronn Lue and Ryan West. Lue is the man who coached Lebron James to three straight NBA Finals appearances, and his knowledge of James could be a potential lifesaver for the Clippers when they have to face off against their biggest rivals in the Lakers. West will most likely start as a scout for now and perhaps replace his father if he decides to retire, so his knowledge won’t go to waste at all.
Bryant and Wright are great at what they do, and their work with Paul George and any other possibly injured players could potentially let them step back out on the court earlier than they would have with a different director.
Castleberry worked with Leonard last year on the Raptors, so the two will be pretty comfortable with each other. It’s a pretty familiar staff for a lot of the players, and that adds a lot to their comfort level and gives them a better chance to enjoy their time in LA.
In closing, the LA Clippers acquired incredibly talented people for every aspect of their game. Two superstars, four critical re-signings, two promising draft picks, four depth pieces, two hard-workers in different stages of their careers, and five new talented staff members all made the Clippers’ offseason easily the best in their history. And now, on to the preseason to see how they all get along.
