Patrick Patterson

Many, including ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, believed that Patrick Patterson was a Clipper as soon as he agreed to a buyout with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

That does not seem to be the case anymore. Patterson came out on Twitter claiming that all the news about signing with the Clippers is nothing more than “rumors”.

While a signing isn’t definite, a possibility of an agreement in the future is not completely off the table. Patterson is a very intriguing player due to the floor spacing and veteran leadership he can bring to this Clippers squad.

A career 36.7% shooter from deep, Patterson will be valuable even if he fills the role of being a reserve rotational big man. With Paul George, JaMychal GreenMfiondu Kabengele, and Mo Harkless all capable of filling the “stretch four” position, Patterson will most likely earn rotational minutes due to an injury to one of those I mentioned above, filling a role similar to Raymond Felton‘s a few years ago.

While Patterson had exposure to this reduced role last season with the Thunder, he may pass up the opportunity to play in Los Angeles if he is offered a better opportunity elsewhere. If the Clippers can get him for the vet’s minimum, it should be an easy decision to bring him into training camp.
