Question #5 – Who wins these Clippers awards?

This question took the standard NBA awards and asked you which Clippers player would win them? Who is their MVP? Their Most Improved Player, etc. There were two landslide winners and the others were closely challenged battles.

  • MVP – Kawi Leonard in a landslide
  • MIP – Landry Shamet in a close win over Ivica Zubac
  • ROYTerance Mann in a close win over ‘Fi Kabengele
  • 6th Man – Lou Williams in a landslide
  • DPOY – Patrick Beverly in a close in over Paul George

Answer #5 – The players just listed win the Clippers awards in 2019-20

Question #6 – Will the Clippers make a trade at the trading deadline in 2020?

Generally speaking, without many exceptions, championship teams do not make major trades at the trading deadline. One notable exception is the Cleveland Cavaliers of 2017-18. That team was dramatically altered just before the trading deadline. In a little more than an hour they executed trades that brought in four new players. A championship team doesn’t generally recover from a shake-up like that, but most teams don’t have LeBron James.

Despite that overhaul the Cavaliers made it to the Finals only to lose to the Warriors. If a championship teams makes a trade at the deadline, its either for future planning in the form of picks or for that one player to get them over the edge. The Lakers made a trade like that when they brought in Mychal Thompson, Klays dad, from the Spurs in 1987 to backup Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and better position the Lakers to beat the Boston Celtics. Larry Bird said of that trade at the time, “If San Antonio needed money, we would’ve sent them money. But to go and help the Lakers like that is just terrible.”

The Lakers went on to beat the Celtics in the Finals that season 4-2.

The vast majority of you, 82.5%, felt the Clippers would make a minor trade to round out the roster. I wonder if Andre Iguodala will be to the 2019-20 Clippers what Mychal Thompson was to the 1986-87 Lakers?
