The LA Clippers have announced that they’ve officially re-signed power forward JaMychal Green after his great performance with the team last season.

Per the LA Clippers, JaMychal Green has been re-signed to a two-year $10,000,000 contract with the second year being a player option, presumably occupying the team’s room exception.

After being included by Memphis in a trade package for much maligned former Clipper, Avery Bradley, JaMychal Green went on to play a crucial part in the Clippers’ run to the 2019 playoffs. He provided size, athleticism, and spacing to a frontcourt in which those things were severely lacking. Green also melded perfectly with the rest of the Clippers locker room, being a natural fit, but also truly buying in to the gritty culture cultivated by Patrick Beverly, Montrezl Harrell, Lou Williams, etc.

From the moment the season ended, Green was posting on social media, expressing his desire to return to Los Angeles. Green posted to Instagram immediately after the Clippers’ elimination from the playoffs, stating:

"Thank you to the Clippers organization for believing in me.. I’m definitely looking forward going to war with my teammates next year and making a deeper run…"

Although it took a little longer than anticipated, due to other free agent and trade acquisitions, JaMychal is back in the building and is absolutely ready to get back to work, having also said as much in one of his latest Instagram posts.

Green should figure to be an important piece for the Clippers once again this season, despite the acquisition of two superstars that will occupy the same frontcourt as he. Green provides something very unique and valuable with his pairing of size and floor spacing.

Head coach Doc Rivers will enjoy great flexibility in the way he can roll out lineups that feature J-Myke. He’s most suited to playing the four alongside rim running centers such as Ivica Zubac and Montrezl Harrell, but is also capable of playing a small-ball five in lineups that could see Paul George and Kawhi Leonard at the three and four, respectively. Lineups that are sure to be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

This flexibility that JaMychal Green brings to the table is only one of many reasons that it was imperative for the Clippers to bring him back into the fold. The fact that they were able to sign a player of his caliber for a downright bargain in today’s stretch-four market is a testament to what this organization has become in recent years.

As happy as JaMychal may be about his return to LA, Clipper Nation is likely just as if not even more excited to have him back.
