Lou Williams – Bard

And finally we come to the reigning Sixth Man of the Year. I’ve decided he’s a bard for a few reasons. First, and most on the nose, in DND and RPGs in general, Bards are wordsmiths. They play instruments and sing songs and tell tales. Well, our guy is a rapper.

In a lot of Role Playing Games, Bards are sort of a force multiplier. If the very best character in your party is a Bard, you might be in trouble; carrying a party through combat isn’t really their deal. But if you have a party that’s ready to fight, and you add in a Bard? You can make a good party nearly unstoppable.

Similarly, Lou Williams showed last year (and many years besides) that he’s more than capable of taking a good bench unit and making it great. Given some weapons to help him attack, he led the Clippers bench to become the highest scoring bench in league history. You look at the other guys on the bench, and it was already a really good second unit. But Lou came in and helped make that second unit great.

For subclasses, I think Lou would be a College of Valor Bard. These Bards are especially adept at inspiring their allies to go and do bigger and better things. A fighter who hits with 70% of his/her swings might hit on 85% with a Valor Bard around.

It’s sort of the same with Lou. His scoring inspired the team and helped to build a culture of “we’re never giving up until we reach that final buzzer.” He was an inspiration to a lot of dudes on that team this past year, and that’s why I think he’s a College of Valor Bard.
