Paul George – Sorcerer
On to the other big addition! You’re gonna have to stick with me here; I’m not saying that PG13 is casting spells on the court… (or is he)
There are three “mage” characters in DND (and many other RPGs that are similar). A Wizard gains their magical powers from studying ancient books and scrolls. A Warlock gains their magical powers by making a deal with some mega-powerful being, like a demon or a Cthulhu horror.
A Sorcerer is born with their powers. They don’t always realize it immediately either; think Harry Potter. That’s what leads me to this class for Paul George.
PG13 comes from an uber-athletic family. Both of his sisters were college athletes and he spent much of his childhood playing basketball against his older sister. That said, he didn’t play organized ball until high school; he had this awesome ability to hoop and he didn’t really fully realize it until high school.
As spellcasters, Sorcerers spend much of their time firing off spells from range – launching fireballs or clouds of daggers at faraway enemies. This is well reflected in PG shooting 39% from 3 on 9.8 attempts per game last year.
That said, there’s a subclass of Sorcerer called the Hexblade. These have made a pact with a sentient weapon, which gives them enough strength to be dangerous up close as well as far away. PG is also dangerous when he gets into an iso situation and drives to the hoop; he’s got to be a Hexblade Sorcerer.
