After falling 87-75 to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night, the LA Clippers will look to get back on track against the Washington Wizards.
The LA Clippers opened up their 2019 Summer League campaign on a high note, taking down the Los Angeles Lakers just one night after Kawhi Leonard agreed to sign a four-year contract with the “lesser” of the two Los Angeles-based teams. Mfiondu Kabengele and Terance Mann led the way in that first game, and while the two put forth equally strong efforts against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, the team didn’t get the same result.
LA fell to Memphis 87-75 on Sunday night, only leading for few possessions. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, led by as many as 16 points and jumped out to a quick start that saw them go up by double-digits. The Clippers managed a mere eight points in the first quarter.
For the second straight game, Kabengele led the Clippers in scoring. He put up 21 points against the Lakers, and 19 against Memphis. Impressively, the 6’10” big connected on 75 percent of his three-point attempts on Sunday after going just 1-of-4 against Los Angeles.
Mann, on the other hand, has been doing a little bit of everything for the Clippers, and recorded a game-high 14 rebounds on Sunday night. He continues to look like the most NBA-ready player on the Summer League roster, and there’s a chance he could see some meaningful minutes in Los Angeles if he continues to show the same effort.
Like the Clippers the Washington Wizards will enter Tuesday night’s game with a 1-1 record in Las Vegas Summer League. They’ve been carried by Troy Brown Jr. and Rui Hachimura, the team’s two most recent first-round picks.
So far, Brown and Hachimura have combined for 33.5 points per game, each making 12 of their 30 attempts from the field. Brown, however, has averaged 12.0 rebounds per game, while Hachimura has averaged 6.0 per game.
The Wizards also have second-round draftee Admiral Schofield on the roster, who could pack a punch off the bench. So far, though, he’s been mostly ineffective for Washington.
In terms of rest alone, the Clippers may have the advantage over the Wizards, as Washington played a tight game on Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets.
The LA Clippers will take the floor tonight at 8:30 PM PST. The game can be viewed on NBA TV in addition to various streaming services. As usual, we’ll be live-tweeting during the game at @ClipperholicsFS on Twitter!
