Number Five

Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis – Dallas Mavericks

This superstar pairing is newly formed, but not as recently as some others you’ll see on the list. On February 1, the Knicks traded Porzingis (who was out for the year) to Dallas in order to free up some cap space to sign one or two of the several superstars on the free agent market in the summer. Yikes.

While the trade didn’t work out the way the Knicks wanted, the Mavericks got a center who they could pair with their rookie. Doncic and Porzingis have not been on the court together yet, but if their individual performances are any indication, they will be exciting.

Doncic catapulted into stardom last season, winning Rookie of the Year. He played beyond his years and still has room to grow. Porzingis is the question mark in this duo and why they sit at the bottom of the rankings.

For big men, torn ACL’s are nothing to scoff at. This rings even more true for someone like Porzingis who relies somewhat on his athletic ability. Yes, he stands 7’3, but he does like to get up for both dunks and to block shots. He may have to alter the way he plays a little and until we see what he can do, it’s best to be cautious.

According to all reports, he progressed well in his recovery and should come back as nearly the same player. If that ends up being true, the combination of him and Doncic could surpass the next combo in our rankings.
