After the LA Clippers traded for Paul George and signed Kawhi Leonard, another superstar duo was created. How do they rank versus the rest of the NBA?

In a move that many of us still have not fully accepted as reality, the LA Clippers pulled off the biggest moves in franchise history by trading for Paul George and signing Kawhi Leonard. With Leonard opting for the Clippers instead of the Lakers, the league suddenly has no super teams.

Instead, there are now multiple organizations with superstar duos. With so many star studded pairings, how do the Clippers two rank heading into this season?

Honorable Mention

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving – Brooklyn Nets

Now, this might not sit well with a lot of you and I totally get it. Just remember, we are looking at superstar duos this season. With Durant 99.9% guaranteed to miss the entire 2019-20 season, I can’t really put him and Kyrie in the countdown.

The duo, like George and Leonard, plotted to join forces for the upcoming season. Unlike those two though, this was seemingly a long time in the making. Kevin Durant’s injury in The Finals obviously delayed the final product we will see, but the two are a formidable pairing. Irving should be able to carry the Nets far, especially when you consider that they had a playoff roster last season with D’Angelo Russell as their lone star. Irving is an offensive upgrade and the rest of the team is still solid.

Assuming Durant does come back at a high level, the Nets will be nearly unstoppable offensively. That’s just it though. We have no idea what to expect when he is able to return to action, so for now, he will have to sit this ranking out. When we revisit this again next summer, fully expect Durant and Irving to be sitting at or near the top of the list.

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson – Golden State Warriors

The O.G. duo of this era, The Splash Brothers also get stuck in the Honorable Mention category for a similar reason. Klay Thompson’s torn ACL may not keep him out as long as Durant’s Achilles injury, but it is still a real possibility that he misses all of this upcoming season.

When healthy, this duo is the best shooting backcourt in NBA history. Thompson’s injury shouldn’t change that once he comes back either. Even if he loses some explosiveness and speed, Klay has proved time and time again that he doesn’t even need to dribble the ball to catch fire.

Steph will have to shoulder quite the load with Durant gone and Klay out. This duo looks like they will be together for the rest of their careers, so like the last pairing, expect to see them back near the top of the rankings next year when they are back on the court together.

With those two pairings out of the way, let’s begin our rankings.
