Ranking the LA Clippers’ toughest Western Conference opponents
No. 3: Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors, as we’ve known them for the past few seasons, are long gone. Kevin Durant has left to team up with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn, and the Nets sent rising star D’Angelo Russell to the Warriors in one of the more surprising moves of the offseason.
The 2019-2020 season is going to look very different for the Warriors, right from the jump. Willie Cauley-Stein will be suiting up at center. Russell will be there next to Stephen Curry. Andre Iguodala will be starting his season elsewhere. And for a big chunk of the year, Klay Thompson will be sidelined with an ACL injury.
But even with all those changes, the Warriors are still going to be the Warriors. Curry is still going to jack up and make shots from 40, 50 feet out. The fans are still going to do the Warriors chant. And with Russell splashing threes while Thompson sits, he’s going to fit right in with what Golden State has been preaching over the course of the last few seasons.
Of course, with other goliaths in the Western Conference, the Warriors likely won’t top the standings in 2019-2020. It would probably be a surprise if they managed a top-four seed, to be honest. But with a former MVP in Curry, an incredible coach in Steve Kerr and numerous pieces that will help keep Golden State in contention, it’s hard to imagine the Warriors underachieving.
Surely, they’ll be among the teams looking to prove themselves against the LA Clippers for next few seasons.
