With two-way superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on the roster, the LA Clippers have taken their first step in building a dynasty.
On July 5, Kawhi Leonard made history when he agreed to sign with the LA Clippers. He was in search of another star as well, and the Clippers were able to grant his wish by trading for Paul George. Now, the Clippers are on the brink of becoming the league’s next dynasty.
We knew Leonard wanted to pair with another star, but most fans believed it would be either Kevin Love or Bradley Beal. However, a turn of events occurred, and with some recruiting by Leonard, the LA Clippers traded away their unprotected 2022, 2024 and 2026 picks, their unprotected 2021 and protected 2023 first-round picks via Miami, and the rights to swap picks with the Clippers in 2023 and 2025 for George from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Clippers’ roster is very deep. Arguably, the deepest defensive team in the league, with a defensive stars like Leonard, Patrick Beverley, George and Maurice Harkless. Not to mention offensively, off the bench, the two best bench players in the league, Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams will provide that spark that only they can. The level of talent the LA Clippers have is endless. Landry Shamet, who is an offensive talent could be coming off the bench for the Clippers as well. Needless to say, it’ll be hard for opposing teams to compete with the amount of talent on this roster.
The future of this young core goes deep. They could win championships under the leadership of two top-10 players, Leonard and George. Their playoff experience and championship-level character will be a great benefit for the young guys on the Clippers. Two of the most hard working, dedicated, and focused players in the league. They don’t talk, they act. The Clippers’ front office is all about action, as we’ve seen and vindicated from this free agency shine.
It will be an uphill battle for Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and the LA Clippers, but as it stands, they’ll be the favorite to win the title next season. And since the two are locked up for the next few seasons, they’ll at least be in the conversation for the duration of each of their contracts. It’s a new era of Clippers basketball, and one that may deliver the franchise’s first banners.
