We’re still in the midst of free agency, but the LA Clippers roster has already begun to take shape. Here’s a brief look at each player and position.
The LA Clippers have enjoyed a relatively successful offseason to this point. The NBA Draft turned out to be better than we expected, with the team trading up to select Mfiondu Kabengele and grabbing his teammate, Terance Mann, in the mid-second round. Free agency has gone well, too, as the team has been able to return Patrick Beverley and Rodney McGruder, and add Maurice Harkless after sticking their necks into the Jimmy Butler trade.
Of course, one prize still remains. The Clippers’ top target this summer, Kawhi Leonard, is still on the board, and he’s still considering joining forces with Doc Rivers’ team. Nobody seems to have a clue regarding when his decision will come, but the indication seems to be that it’ll be this weekend at the very latest.
But even if Leonard doesn’t sign, the Clippers have put together a very solid team that should, at the least, be able to compete for a playoff spot. They should have a step up on last year’s team, and that squad won 48 games in 2018-2019.
Admittedly, free agency has been hard to follow. With moves being announced left and right, the flurry of the first few days was easy to get lost in. So before we focus on who will be here next year, let’s first talk about who won’t be.
One of the very first moves announced was in regards to Garrett Temple, who has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the Brooklyn Nets. A solid role player and glue guy with the LA Clippers, Temple averaged 4.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 26 games.
The Nets also added another Clipper in free agency — Wilson Chandler, whose struggles in Los Angeles were well-documented. Granted, the 32-year-old forward was recovering from numerous injuries all season long, but he still didn’t do much to warrant another contract from the Clippers. In 15 games, he averaged 4.3 points and 3.1 rebounds.
JaMychal Green surprisingly remains without a team, despite the impressive season he put together with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Clippers. A high-effort forward who can stretch the floor, Green averaged 8.7 points and 6.5 rebounds while playing for LA, and shot a 41.3 percent clip from three-point range.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s take a look at who we know will be suiting up for the LA Clippers next season.
