2014-2015: The Chris Paul Floater and the Second Half Collapse

Doc Rivers and the Clippers were out to prove the NBA world wrong in 2014-2015 and prove they could get over the hump and get to the WCF.

A 56-26 record placed LA in third place again but they had to play arguably the best six seed of all time in form of the San Antonio Spurs, who were led by Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard. Oh, and the Spurs were the defending champions.

How crazy was the Western Conference in 2015? Well, the Spurs were a six seed and were only one game behind the two seeded Rockets. That is how crazy the middle of the West was behind Golden State.

Nevertheless, the Clippers and Spurs battled in seven games in arguably the most exciting series in Clippers history to date and the biggest win in franchise history coming from game six when the Clippers trailed 3-2 and came out with a win in San Antonio.

Game seven will always be remembered for Chris Paul’s floater over Tim Duncan at the buzzer, so let’s relive that moment together shall we?

Arguably the most iconic moment in Clippers history, LA defeated the defending champions and the Clippers had all the momentum going into round two against the Houston Rockets.

The Clippers were up 3-2 on Houston in LA and were up 19 points going into the fourth quarter. Also remember the Clippers were up 3-1 and lost game five in Houston and had a chance to close out the series before this.

The Rockets would outscore LA 40-15 in the 4th quarter, led mainly by Dwight Howard and Josh Smith. The Clippers crowd was shocked and LA blew their best chance at a WCF bid they had ever had and went on to lose game seven in Houston and once again miss out on a chance at the Warriors again.

This is truly where the franchise turned down a new path. The Clippers window was slowly closing and many doubted if it would even stay open for that much longer and as we continue our journey, we find out that the doubters were right.
