No. 3: Brooklyn Nets

Projected cap room: $67 million

Much like the New York Knicks, the Brooklyn Nets are another team being sent back down the line on our rankings. None of that is necessarily the franchise’s fault, though.

Outside of the Golden State Warriors, the Nets are the absolute favorite to land Kevin Durant this summer. Being that he’s one of the LA Clippers’ most sought-after targets this summer, that gives them the nod over the Knicks and makes them a top-three threat.

In addition to that, the Nets seem to be a lock to sign Kyrie Irving this summer, and the idea of pairing him with Durant is straight up scary. Of course, they’d have to wait a full season for Durant to be able to play, but the moment those two step on the floor together, they’d instantly become title contenders, regardless of who else is around them.

Unlike the New York Knicks, there’s been nothing regarding Kawhi Leonard and the Nets, so it seems safe to assume that he won’t be playing basketball at the Barclay’s Center next season.

The Nets are also a much more competent franchise than the Knicks — with great ownership, a strong coaching staff and plenty of cap room, expect the Nets to make smart decisions this summer as they become a legitimate challenger in the Eastern Conference.
