Fit With the Clippers

Drafting a player like Admiral Schofield is the type of move when you want someone that can immediately come in and make an impact. As a second round pick, that impact isn’t the usual one. His impact would likely be getting spot minutes in say, game 63, when your starting wing is banged up and resting so you have shuffled the lineup.

He’s serviceable, but not going to be someone who decides meaningful games or likely gets a ton of time in the playoffs. Could he be in future years? Definitely.

Having more three-and-D potential guys is never a bad thing and the Clippers are in desperate need of wings. Even if they land Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers will need to add depth and getting someone like Schofield to fill out the end of the bench is a cheap, but solid option.

Obviously, 22-years-old isn’t even really that old, so he does have time to expand his game. His ball handling needs some work and the defensive deficiencies I mentioned could also be worked on. Still, for a second round player, the team could do a lot worse. If the team does strike out in free agency, he could see a little more time on the court and could grow with Gilgeous-Alexander, Landry Shamet and Jerome Robinson.

Whoever the Clippers end up selecting in the second round will be entering a franchise that will allow them to maximize their potential. But honestly, shouldn’t someone named Admiral be on the NBA’s ship related team?
