1. Joshua Obiesie – Germany
Here is where things get interesting to me.
Obiesie, a product of Germany’s Wurzburg, is a 6-foot-6 guard who has incredible handles and can make plays from almost any sort of offense, passing the basketball while also posing a threat defensively at three positions.
To me, Obiesie can be a better version of Lonzo Ball after a few seasons of development and he only struggles shooting the basketball in some fashion because of his unique shooting motion.
Ranked as the tenth best PG in ESPN’s Player Evaluations by Chad Ford, Obiesie is attainable without having to trade up into the first round. He averaged 8.6 PPG, 3.0 RPG and 2.0 APG in nine games at the German professional level and if those exact stats translated to the NBA, that would be pretty solid for a backup guard.
Why is he number one on my list? Because the Clippers get major flexibility from adding Obiesie to their future plans. Obiesie could play in Germany for another season after being drafted and then get G-League or even NBA action the following year after more development which opens up the possibility for the Clippers to pursue a veteran point guard in free agency.
Obiese is very much like SGA as well and why not have basically two players who could switch on and off and basically play very similarly? Obiesie is one of my favorite players in this draft and I hope the Clippers take a gamble and get him in the second round.
Would you take any of these guards with one of the Clippers two second round picks? Let us know on Twitter and keep checking back here for all your draft coverage!
