Fit With The LA Clippers
So, if the Clips do end up taking Jontay Porter in the second round, how would he fit with the roster?
In the short term, he wouldn’t really be a factor. Yes, he should be fully recovered from the injury by the time the season rolls around, but he will have not been on a basketball court for an extended amount of time since October. Getting himself back into shape will be the main concern and he could see an extended stint or all of next season on the Agua Caliente roster.
In the longer term, he would be a big help off the bench and perhaps develop into a starter. With the way the roster was constructed this season, Porter’s skillset would fit right in.
His ability to stretch the floor greatly compliments both Ivica Zubac and Montrezl Harrell on the offensive end and he offers a little bit more shot blocking than the team currently has.
He may need some time to develop, which would not mesh with the team’s focus on winning should they sign Kawhi. Still, if he can contribute after this season, he would be worth taking the flier on regardless.
Jontay Porter is a high reward, low risk move for the LA Clippers. Once projected as a top talent, his stock dropped quickly due to injuries. However, if he can overcome his knee troubles, the Clips could grab one of the biggest steals in this year’s draft.
