Skillset

Jontay Porter does have talent. Although he only was able to play in one season at Missouri, he proved he could be a top prospect. He was nominated to the SEC All-Freshman Team and won the SEC Sixth Man of the Year award.

Offense – 9.9 PPG, 43.7% FG, 2.2 AST

As I briefly mentioned, Jontay Porter could be a solid stretch big for the LA Clippers.

During the 2017-18 season at Missouri (his freshman year), Porter hit a solid 36% of his 3.3 attempts from deep per game. This helped him to 9.9 points over his 33 games. Keep in mind, he only started in seven of them. Another caveat here? He’s a lefty.

While he can score when needed, his best attribute may be his court vision.

For a big man, Porter is very adept at finding the open man, whether they are cutting or spotting up. His time rehabbing in Denver also has allowed him to watch Nikola Jokic up close and personal, so he may have picked up even more.

Defense – 6.8 REB, 0.8 STL, 1.7 BLK

On the defensive end, Porter isn’t anything special, but isn’t poor either. He can use his length to block shots, but it remains to be seen how much that will be affected by his injuries.

Still, he has a good head on his shoulders, so more often than not, he’ll end up in the right spot.

Those 25 pounds he lost are also concerning on this end. He needs to add some muscle back as he was originally weighed at 240lbs in college. The extra weight may be tough on his knee, but if he adds it back gradually while rehabbing, it shouldn’t cause an issue.
