The LA Clippers, among other teams, have tried to engage in Anthony Davis trade talks. Rumors now indicate a deal may need multiple teams involved.

The wait for Anthony Davis to be traded continues, but Pelicans General Manager David Griffin has made his desired trade package known. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Griffin doesn’t even think one singular team can fulfill his requirements. This means the LA Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets or anyone else who wants to get involved will likely need to find a third team to help send assets to New Orleans.

As expected, the price for AD is steep. According to Woj:

"Griffin is pursuing a combination of assets that include an All-Star player, a young player with All-Star potential and two first-round picks, league sources said."

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is reportedly off of the table in trade talks, so this leaves the Clippers with only Landry Shamet to fill the young player role. As for an All-Star player? The Clips have none. The closest they have would be Danilo Gallinari, who is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. Gallo’s contract is expiring, which might be a little more enticing for the Pelicans.

The multiple first round picks might not be an issue as the Clippers have a few – namely the 2021 Miami Heat unprotected first rounder – but it seems like this front office values picks highly.

Giving up a package of Shamet, Gallinari, the Miami pick and at least one other first seems like quite a lot for Davis, especially given he can enter unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2020. Davis has expressed interest in playing in Los Angeles, which gives the front office a small level of faith they can re-sign him, but nothing is certain.

In all likelihood though, this package is nowhere near enough. With Griffin publicly floating his minimum, the cost for Davis is likely to rise. He very well may get his wish to have multiple teams get involved, giving the Pelicans a treasure trove of assets.

While most of Clipper Nation’s attention is focused on Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant, a potential Davis trade should be garnering attention as all parties continue to work for deals.
