No. 2: Brooklyn Nets

Projected cap room: $54.6 million

When it’s all said and done, the Brooklyn Nets probably won’t end up with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant together on their roster. They could pair one with D’Angelo Russell if they choose to retain him, or team Irving up with a player like Tobias Harris or Jimmy Butler — but they probably won’t pair the two.

That being said, the Nets seem like the biggest threat to sign Irving away from the Boston Celtics, and if Durant is serious about playing with the All-NBA guard, Brooklyn could easily steal him away from the LA Clippers’ grasp.

Unlike the New York Knicks, the Nets already have a competitive team. They won 42 games this season and finished with the Eastern Conference’s sixth seed, eventually losing to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs.

Brooklyn also has a very competent front office, headlined by General Manager Sean Marks, who has been excellent during his tenure with the Nets.

It wouldn’t be a bad place for Durant to go, especially considering the Nets are believed to be frontrunners for Irving. And since the LA Clippers are firmly in the running to land Durant, Brooklyn gets the nod at No. 2.
