Reason One: Fits Perfectly With Free Agency Goals

It’s been no secret whatsoever that the LA Clippers have big dreams in this offseason’s free agency. The team has long been rumored as the top landing spot if Kawhi Leonard leaves Toronto. Also, while less likely, some pundits suspect that the Clips have a puncher’s chance at Kevin Durant, should he leave Golden State.

Either of these two would be an incredible pairing with Davis. If you pair Kawhi with AD, opponents will have nightmares about trying to score on you. Imagine having to find a way to beat Kawhi off the dribble, only to see Anthony Davis waiting under the rim for you.

If the duo is Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis, you’re pairing one of the league’s premier offensive superstars with the all-world defense of Davis. It’s tough to see that pairing not being incredibly effective.

A draft-day trade could also win over either of those free agents. The Clippers already have so many pluses in the “should a free agent sign with them?” column, that adding Anthony Davis might just be the final straw needed.

The downside here is that, of course, we’d have to give up our young guys. At least one, possibly both of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Landry Shamet would have to go in a trade for AD. While this would hurt, I look at it as these guys have the potential to be All-Stars or All-NBA guys. Anthony Davis already is that.
