Sign a star

The goal of the game is to win championships, and the best way to do that is by acquiring a star. The 2019 free agent class has more talent than prior years, and the LA Clippers need to capitalize.

The goal is to land Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant. A Leonard-Durant tandem would become the best forward duo in the league. Both can score from anywhere and defend the best players on opposing teams.

Even if they fail to land one of these stars, there are several others. Klay Thompson, Kemba Walker, Kyrie Irving, Khris Middleton, Nikola Vucevic and Jimmy Butler are just a few of the names expected to be on the market this summer. Any combination of these players would increase the Clippers’ odds of putting a banner in their rafters.

If the Clippers miss out on signing stars, fans will be upset, and justifiably so. They could always push their plans back a year, but that is a waste of time. The Clippers need  to sign a star. Their performance against the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs should show free agents that this is a core that can compete with the best of the best. By adding a star or two, the Clippers would put themselves in contention to win the West, especially if they stole one of the stars from the Warriors.

If the LA Clippers fail to sign a star, they shouldn’t be considered a failure. However, fans would rightfully be disappointed.
