Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell – The Bar (Cesaro and Sheamus)

This was a fun comparison, and one that I think really fits. For this, Lou Williams is Cesaro and Montrezl Harrell is Sheamus.

Much like Lou Williams, Cesaro came to the company as an established name. As Claudio Castagnoli, he wrestled for years in Ring of Honor and the independent scene, including a stint in the Japanese promotion Pro Wrestling NOAH. Similarly, Lou Williams made his bones as a journeyman in the NBA; the Clippers were his sixth team.

Cesaro has a wide moveset that dazzles WWE fans; you never know what he’s going to pull out next. Lou Williams is a magician with the ball; he might hit you with a running floater in the paint, or a stepback midrange, or a running fader, or even a knockdown three.

That said, each have their calling card. Lou Williams was incredibly clutch this season, and as fans we almost got used to him coming through when we needed him most. Cesaro has his superhuman strength; a shtick that always gets a reaction is when Cesaro deadlifts some of the largest wrestlers in the WWE.

As opposed to Cesaro, Sheamus has been in the WWE for almost his entire career. He spent a few formative years wrestling in Europe, but then came to the WWE and tore it up. Similarly, Montrezl Harrell spent a couple early years in Houston, but is really making his name with the Clippers.

When he first arrived in WWE, Sheamus wasn’t nearly the talent he is now. Despite being pushed a little too hard too quickly, Sheamus worked hard and found his niche; he’s now one of the more loved wrestlers as part of The Bar.

When Montrezl came into the league, he was little more than an energy guy; think Kenneth Faried. But he didn’t let that label define him. Despite getting several starts in his first couple of years that didn’t go terribly well, Montrezl worked hard to master his craft and become the fantastic bench big that he is today.

The comparison really wraps up with the fact that Cesaro and Sheamus found each other and are now one of the two or three best tag teams in the WWE. Two wrestlers who weren’t going anywhere for a while became one of the hottest acts.

It’s the same with Lou and Montrezl. These two found each other and perfected the pick and roll. When Lou has the ball and Montrezl is running up to screen, there’s a sense of wonder. Anything could happen! Using this connection, Lou and Montrezl led one of the best benches in the league.
