Clipperholics 2019 NBA Mock Draft: Vol. 1
By Ethan Smith
So here is the thing about this pick, the Wolves do not need more big men, they need guards that will progress into something and Porter Jr. can do that.
The Wolves might be tempted to take other players, mostly big men, with this pick, but they should take Porter Jr., who is a solid guard from USC who creates from the perimeter and can go on major scoring outbreaks at random times.
He is a likely reach here, but a reach that will have more reward than risk. Porter Jr. alongside Jeff Teague in the backcourt can have scoring behind Karl Anthony-Towns and Andrew Wiggins and hopefully dig the Wolves out of NBA purgatory.
The Hornets are in arguably the most awful position possible ahead of the offseason with the Kemba Walker situation, but drafting Herro could help ease the pain and put a band-aid over the wound.
Walker may stay and get bank or leave for a more competitive team, but Tyler Herro could be an amazing pick regardless.
Herro impressed at Kentucky and personally, I wish he would’ve stayed for one more year. Nevertheless, Herro is an amazing scorer on the pick-and-roll as well in the spot-up shooting role.
His competitive drive could also push the Hornets to a playoff spot if Kemba stays, but if he doesn’t, Herro will not let the Hornets be mediocre.
It’s the post Dwyane Wade era in Miami and for the Heat, getting the best young talent you can get should be their main focus and they do so here with Clarke.
He will be ready to step-in right away with his skill as a roller and rim-protector as well as turning 23 before he even steps foot on NBA hardwood.
Clarke would work well alongside Bam Adebayo and Hassan Whiteside and would likely get quality minutes at the four and develop nicely in Miami for Pat Riley.
The Celtics received this pick from the Kings and will use it on PJ Washington to round out the lottery.
The Celtics underachieved this season and by picking Washington here, they get better.
Washington can defend multiple positions on the floor and he scores well from any spot on the floor, giving the Celtics a strong candidate to get quality minutes with Marcus Morris likely out the door.
Washington could also be used as a trade piece for Anthony Davis if the Celtics want to still go that route, but Washington would be a solid player who could grow in TD Garden for years to come.
