Clipperholics 2019 NBA Mock Draft: Vol. 1
By Ethan Smith
The Bulls have been in desperate need for a point guard, much like the Suns, and they fill this need by drafting Coby White.
White was not considered a lottery pick before the season began but he showed signs on becoming an NBA playmaker and scorer at UNC.
As Clippers fans, White is a fun player and built much like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, with White standing at 6-foot-5.
White would benefit much like Garland with this fit because he would get the primary minutes at the point guard position in Chicago and have a solid guard beside him, in this case Zach LaVine.
Doumbouya is yet another player in this draft that many don’t know about, due to the fact that he played in France this year, but he is also a solid player here at number eight for the Atlanta Hawks.
Standing at 6-foot-9, Doumbouya has the physical tools to play solid defense in the NBA and he already scores pretty well in France.
This pick would make sense for a Hawks team that sped up its rebuild with Doumbouya already somewhat established and ready for NBA basketball. He would not be asked to score much with Trae Young and John Collins being the primary scorers so he could take his time to develop into the solid NBA forward he can be.
Reddish has been the most interesting player of this draft class.
Many scouts and analysts said that Duke would have three players in the top-four of this draft, with Morant being the outlier, but after a sluggish season a Duke where it seemed he did not show his true potential, Reddish has fallen pretty far, but Washington picks him up at nine for a reason.
Reddish again is a player who has the build to be a solid NBA player and can shoot from the perimeter as well as most players in this draft. He would work well alongside Bradley Beal as a secondary scorer, much like he did at Duke, but having NBA reps rather that tournament reps will work well for Reddish.
Reddish would be the centerpiece to the likely rebuild coming for Washington and he could be the cornerstone sooner rather than later.
The second of two lottery picks for the Hawks addresses one of the teams biggest needs, a quality, young center.
The Hawks saw impressive minutes from Alex Len, but bringing in Hayes would give them arguably the best, young front court in basketball with Hayes and Collins.
Hayes is a project no doubt, much like he was when he went to Texas out of high school. He lacks a strong offensive game but makes up for it with pure physical ability and mobility in a fast-paced offense.
If Hayes develops correctly, he could be an amazing pick-and-roll partner with Trae Young and eventually set screens for young scorer Kevin Huerter while letting John Collins do his thing. He would also add another piece to a fun core of players in Atlanta.
