Montrezl Harrell just had the best year of his career and shows no signs of slowing down. The LA Clippers forward shared his summer workout plans.
Montrezl Harrell just had the best season of his young career. It was the type of season that propelled him into both the Sixth Man of the Year and Most Improved Player conversations. It was the type of year that got him national attention, especially in the playoffs where the defending champion Golden State Warriors could not stop him. The LA Clippers forward isn’t done.
Just days after being eliminated by the Warriors, Harrell took to his Instagram page to share his summer plans. It was posted on his story, so if you missed it, you can see the image below.
The list will be quite an undertaking for Harrell, but one that could propel him into All-Star conversation. On the year, Harrell put up 16.6 points per game on 61.5% shooting, but virtually none of his production came from beyond the arc.
Harrell shot only 17.6% from deep on just 0.2 attempts per game. Several of those were late heaves to end quarters. If he can become effective from deep, even from just the corner, his game will open up so much more. If just two or three more shots per game were from deep, he would be a 20 point per game scorer.
As a roll man, Harrell was at his best. He and Lou Williams were one of the most potent duos in the league. Among players who were the roll man more than 20% of the time, Harrell ranked 8th in the league. He was able to score on 66.7% of those plays. Now, just imagine a quicker, in better shape Montrezl Harrell as the roll man. Sends chills, right?
The addition of ball handling to his game could also be huge. There were rare instances of “Point Trezz”, but those were far and few in between. Below, you can see one point where Trezz took the ball straight toward the bucket against the Dallas Mavericks in a game which he scored his career-high.
Imagine more of that going forward. It’ll be tough to take the ball out of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Lou Williams or “X” superstar’s hands, but having more ball handlers is never a bad thing.
Harrell ended the post with “GOOD LUCK”. It’s a warning to the rest of the league that they better be ready for what he will bring to the table next year. Clipper Nation, get excited.
