LA Clippers Fall Behind 3-1 to GSW: 3 Takeaways
The Rise of the Rookies
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took this primetime spot on national television and made sure everyone knew his name. The top pick for the Clippers not only had his best scoring game of the postseason, but of the entire year.
His stats: 25 points (career high) on 60% shooting, which included three of five from deep, two assists, two rebounds and a steal. Shai seemed more aggressive and got to his spots with ease. The rookie came out firing, scoring 14 of his 25 in the first quarter.
The more surprising story of the night was the play of Jerome Robinson. Having not really played beside garbage time minutes in this series, Doc Rivers went ahead and gave him the early nod. His energy was noticeable and he quickly made a real impact on the game.
In a five minute burst in the second quarter, Robinson put up seven points, two steals and an assist. This was a surprise for many Clippers fans, but an amazing sight. Robinson has been the most overlooked of the Clippers rookies since Landry Shamet joined Gilgeous-Alexander in the starting lineup.
Speaking of, Shamet also played well. His defense this series has been notable and today was no different. He added in nine points, a rebound, an assist and two steals.
The team may not make it past the first round, but the experience of playing in the postseason for the three rookies is a big part of why the franchise was so determined to make the postseason.
