The LA Clippers Laou Williams could move into first place for career points off of the bench tonight against the Boston Celtics.

According to LA Clippers PR, Lou Williams could move into first for career bench points tonight against the Boston Celtics. The reigning Sixth Man of the Year just needs 28 points to move into the top spot, passing current leader Dell Curry.

Williams moved into second place on Friday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder, passing former Clipper Jamal Crawford. He did it in spectacular fashion, scoring 40 points, grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out five assists and snagging four steals. It was a complete performance worth of the Sixth Man of the Year award.

There has been some discussion on whether or not Williams will win the Sixth Man Award this season. A win would be his second in a row and would tie him all-time with Crawford for most Sixth Man of the Year Awards with three apiece.

Moving into first place for career bench points should definitely not be overlooked, but with teammate Montrezl Harrell playing well, the vote may incidentally get split. Williams does have other stiff competition in Domantas Sabonis and the feel good story in Derrick Rose.

While scoring 28 points tonight isn’t unrealistic, Williams will face a tough defender. Marcus Smart will likely draw the assignment against Lou and surely won’t want to be the one the record is broken against. Should he fail to score all 28 tonight, he should reach that mark in the team’s next game tomorrow night against the Portland Trail Blazers in a battle that will heavily impact Western Conference playoff seeding.

On the season, Williams is averaging 20.2 points on 42.4% shooting, 3.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 0.8 steals.
