Sekou Doumboya- F France

Standing 6’9 and 210 pounds, Sekou Doumboya might be the most interesting international prospect in this year’s draft. He just turned 18 years old in December, so there is a ton of upside. Already playing professional ball in France, he should just need some work on his body to be NBA ready.

Since he’s international, fans like myself have not had a lot of exposure. Doumboya seems to be extremely raw, which is expected for someone of his age. The Stepien cites how his size is already great, as is his athleticism. Outside of that though, he needs work.

A few notes from The Stepien:

"Big time defensive tools, potential to be super versatile Jump shot is very inconsistent but mechanics look good Bizarre combination of inexperience and natural talent. Poor decision leads to turnover, only for Doumouya to recover with a highlight block. An immense physical talent with as much untapped potential as anyone on the list but also a player who is still learning the fundamentals and has a very raw skill set. High risk but with versatile two-way upside."

See? Raw. While the potential is there, selecting Doumboya might be better if the team already has an idea of who they will be signing. If he can be taken and stashed in the G-League, it would likely benefit both sides. Doumboya could play against near-NBA level competition while still honing his craft and the Clippers could just continue to compete without having to worry about getting him minutes to develop.

In my opinion, this honestly might be the ideal pick for the team, given the way it works out for both parties. As stated earlier, with not a lot of depth in this draft, getting a project player who is only 18 years old wouldn’t be that bad of an outcome, all things considered.
