He may be in his first year, but the LA Clippers made a smart move in bringing in aLandry Shamet right at the trade deadline.

The LA Clippers made a massive trade before the deadline. The trade sent Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic and Mike Scott to the Philadelphia 76ers for Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala, Landry Shamet, multiple draft picks that included Philly’s 2020 first-round pick, Miami’s unprotected 2021 first-round pick and Detroit’s 2021 and 2023 second-round picks.

Although Mike Muscala was traded shortly after for Ivica Zubac and Michael Beasley, the Clippers still gained Chandler and Shamet in the trade. The deal signified a new outlook of the Clippers and showed how they will be attacking free agency this off-season.

In acquiring these new assets, a diamond in the rough was found, Landry Shamet. Extremely underrated and overlooked, his efficiency offensively turned some heads back in Philadelphia. Averaging 8.6 points per game on a field goal percentage of 44.6, you could say Shamet was an ostentatious character off of the bench for the Sixers. His role was to come off of the bench and cause mayhem for the opposing team through his vigorous repeated attacks on offense, especially from three point land.

Shamet was to be the back up shooting guard for J.J. Redick. To say the least, Landry Shamet is a stud. He proved this on Philly and he is beginning to start a career here in Los Angeles. Shamet is young and can seemingly be overachieving for his rookie contract. Costing not even two million a year due to his late first-round contract, his efficiency will be off the charts.  Prolific in scoring, flashy in plays and a definite offensive talent that continues to be overlooked is what defines Landry Shamet’s play.

Shamet is a Redick type shooter. He is spasmodic around the three point line and can shoot unbalanced threes with a different kind of ease. The way he shoots is fast and brisk, the defenders usually have to second guess at contesting the shots because of his leaning motion which draws fouls.

In fact, he was mentored by Redick on the Sixers. He said this in a post-game interview about the impact of Redick on his shooting,

"“I learned a ton. Probably more than he realizes that I learned from him. He took great care of me. He put me in a good place, and I don’t know if I am where I’m at without a lot of what he did for me.”"

Next. For the Clippers, Lottery or Playoffs is a Win/Win. dark

Landry Shamet is an asset the Clippers need to keep going forward and I believe they will. The Clippers see a bright future in the twenty-one year old scorer and his effort will not be under appreciated.
