Anthony Davis has reportedly given the New Orleans Pelicans a list of teams he’d like to be traded to — and the LA Clippers are rumored to be on it.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis has given his team a list of destinations that he would be willing to re-sign with following a trade. We know that the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are among those teams, and from Woj’s tweet, we know the Boston Celtics are not on the list.
Per a more recent tweet, we’ve also learned that the Milwaukee Bucks are on Davis’ new list, although the Bucks have reportedly not inquired about trading for the big man and would have a difficult time creating the proper space for him.
The real news for LA Clippers fans came a few moments later, when Shams Charania reported that the Clippers are on Davis’ shortlist of teams he’d prefer a trade to.
The Clippers would be an interesting fit for Davis — not only could the Clippers accommodate his contract following the 2019-2020 season, but they could pair him with another superstar (Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant) as soon as July.
The Clippers can offer the Pelicans a solid trade package as well, especially if they give them options. A package consisting of one of Tobias Harris or Danilo Gallinari, one of Lou Williams or Montrezl Harrell, and rounded out by Jerome Robinson and at least one first-round pick is not only competitive with what we’ve heard the Los Angeles Lakers have offered, but could be considered better depending on what the Pelicans are seeking.
Charania has also reported that the Knicks are an unlikely destination for Davis, since they’ve moved Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas.
That leaves the Clippers and the Lakers (because of course it does) as Davis’ most likely trade destinations.
However, the Clippers have still reportedly not made an offer for Davis, though that may change with this recent news.
Because of the timing of which the information was released, it seems safe to assume that the Pelicans would prefer to get a deal done sooner rather than later, which means ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.
If the LA Clippers are interested in landing Davis, the time to act is now. There are only a few days left until the deadline, and the Lakers may swoop in and steal him unless the Clippers get involved.
