Why LA Clippers forward Tobias Harris deserves an All-Star nod
Coming into the season in the final year of his contract, Tobias Harris has played exceptionally and has shown why he should be an All-Star with the LA Clippers.
After declining a 4-Year, $80 Million contract extension with the LA Clippers this past summer, Tobias Harris came into this season hoping to prove many wrong and elevate his game to show he can carry the load on a nightly basis.
Harris and the Clippers surprised teams around the league in the first quarter of the season when they were on top of the Western Conference standings. At the end of November, LA was 15-6 and was looking like a lock for the playoffs.
It makes sense, then, that Harris took home his first Player of the Month award for October/November after averaging 22 points and nine rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the floor and 44 from deep.
This year, Harris is averaging career numbers in points per game (21.2), field-goal percentage (50.3), three-point percentage (43.3) and is getting to the free throw line much more often (4.1 attempts per game).
With the All-Star Reserves set to be announced later this evening, Harris’ name should definitely be in consideration. Last year if you may recall, Clippers guard Lou Williams was snubbed from the All-Star Game. This could be their chance to redeem their mistake.
Though fan voting for the game takes place only for the starters, coaches from both conferences decide who makes the cut.
In the stacked Western Conference, it will be a tough battle for Harris to secure a spot, but he is deserving with his stellar play this season.
If Harris does indeed make the team, he will join fellow rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Charlotte, as SGA will be playing for Team World in the Rising Stars Challenge.
Last Year, Harris participated in the Three-Point Contest and finished third, this year it would be nice to see a Clipper participate in the All-Star Game for the first time in the post-Lob City Era.
Here I listed three goals for Harris heading into the season and if he gets selected tomorrow night, he will have met two out of the three goals already.
Well, Clipper Nation we are halfway through the season but there is still ground a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for Trade Deadline coverage, All-Star Weekend coverage and the playoff push that has already begun.
