With news breaking that Anthony Davis wants to be traded, the LA Clippers should ignore the hype and focus on Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant.

I don’t know about you all, but when I woke up this morning and saw the Woj bomb regarding Anthony Davis, I immediately went to the Trade Machine and started plugging in things just to see what the LA Clippers could possibly offer.

After sitting there and gutting the current squad, I realized something: Why am I doing this?

First off, I don’t even think we have the assets in order to pull off a trade of this magnitude. I mean, we couldn’t even land Jimmy Butler earlier this season.

Secondly, does making a move like this seem like something our front office would really even do? One of or both of Jerome Robinson and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would have to be on the table, as well as Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, Tobias Harris and Danilo Gallinari.

Yes, AD is a superstar , but does gutting the team really make sense? I think not.

It’s no secret that Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant are the primary focuses of the front office this season. The Clippers can create the necessary cap space to sign one or both superstars, should they entice them to join the team.

If those have been your end goals (and Kawhi seems like a real possibility), why would you gut your team for one player? Kawhi and AD would be an extremely threatening two-way combination, but who would you be able to put around them? The team would be top heavy and would likely have to rely on ring chasers willing to sign for less money.

Sticking to the plan of pursuing Leonard and Durant leaves the Clippers with most of their current roster, their future picks in tact and allows them to get comparable (or better, depending on your stance) talent.

Teams are definitely going to throw out offers to the Pelicans. Why wouldn’t they? The Clippers can make an offer, but I really don’t think selling the whole farm is a wise decision nor does it match what the front office has shown us so far.
