LA Clippers rookie Jerome Robinson is recalled from G-League
LA Clippers rookie guard Jerome Robinson has been recalled from the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario ahead of tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz.
Jerome Robinson, the 13th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, has been recalled by the LA Clippers ahead of tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz.
Robinson has been playing excellent basketball for the Agua Caliente Clippers during his assignment. In 11 starts, the 21-year-old rookie posted averages of 20.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the floor and 49 percent from three, according to the G-League’s official database.
Robinson has appeared in eight games for the LA Clippers this season, most of which came in early November. Due to his position in the rotation, he hasn’t received many minutes, but he has been productive when he sees the floor. So far, he’s averaging 2.9 points in roughly five minutes per game.
It’s likely that Robinson keeps his place in the rotation in tonight’s game, so there’s a solid chance he sees the floor during his usual times. According to Basketball-Reference, Robinson has played in eight of a possible 13 games this season, so odds are he’ll at least take part in the contest.
Robinson’s best game with Agua Caliente came November 14 against the Iowa Wolves, when he scored a season-high 35 points.
Robinson will return to a Los Angeles team that has lost three straight against the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and New Orleans Pelicans. Tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz could be the next in a disappointing stretch of games.
Utah has finally gotten its record into the positive, and currently own the Western Conference’s eighth seed. The team also has one of the best road records in the conference, so they could be a real threat to the Clippers tonight as they seek their fifth straight win.
Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell will be a particularly tough matchup, and one that Avery Bradley may struggle with. His defense has fallen well below par recently, and since the Jazz are a generally poor offensive team, it might be a better decision to cut back on his minutes and give some more to Tyrone Wallace and/or Robinson, if they have the hot hand.
In other news, it seems as though fellow rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has finally hit the rookie wall. His numbers have been down across the board over the last few weeks, but it doesn’t appear that he’ll be removed from the starting lineup anytime soon. Tonight should be another good chance for him to get out of his rut and begin playing like he was at the beginning of the season.
The LA Clippers and Utah Jazz will meet tonight at 7:30 PM PST at STAPLES Center. The Clippers are a one-point favorite.
