Los Angeles Clippers: 15 greatest scorers of all-time
As revered as he has become for his days as a Kansas Jayhawk, Danny Manning also saw his college game translate to the NBA at a high level for 15 seasons spread across multiple cities.
Manning had always been branded a scorer, and for good reason. The former No. 1 overall pick could go toe-to-toe during any given game against the league’s best, putting on a show by scoring in bunches.
A 6-foot-10 power forward, Manning mostly operated with his back to the basket. He could face up and knock down the occasional 15-foot jump shot. More often than not, you could find Manning backing his man down for easy layups, or duping his man with both head and ball fakes to unleash a smooth fadeaway jumper.
As a polished four-year college graduate, Manning came into the NBA fully ready to contribute right away with little restrictions. This was exactly what he did, averaging 16.7 points per game on 49.4 percent shooting from the field in his first NBA season with the Clippers. He’d then go on to hover around that mark before averaging 22.8 points per game in his last full season as a Clipper, his first as an NBA All-Star.
We’ve seen plenty of examples of dominant college stars fail to transition to the big-boy league. Luckily for both him and the organization, Manning wasn’t one of them. He clocks in at No. 7 on the Clippers all-time scoring list with 7,120 points in five and a half seasons, living up to the hype as a naturally gifted scoring threat coming out of Kansas.
