Montrezl Harrell, Lou Williams shine in LA Clippers win over Warriors
Shai is coming into his own
Lost in all the hullabaloo was Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance. The rookie in his fourth start dropped 18 points on an incredible 8 of 11 shooting. At one point in the third quarter, he scored six consecutive points for the Clippers.
The rookie looked like a veteran at times, settling the team down when the Warriors would go on a mini run. Shai may not win Rookie of the Year with players like Luka Doncic in his class, but he looks to have a long, productive NBA career in front of him.
Still, he has impressed everyone. While his shot form isn’t perfect, Shai has learned to use his length to create shots. He looked impressive off the pick and roll, scoring from the mid-range efficiently. If he can further develop his shot and extend his range, he will be a nightmare to guard.
On the defensive end, he also has gotten good at bothering shooters. In his 12 games so far, players are shooting 4.6% worse when he is defending them. He even managed to get a block late in the game on Draymond Green in the paint.
The Clippers have definitely found their point guard of the future in Shai and are able to give him experience now while also still putting themselves in the position to compete for the postseason.
