The LA bench makes history

The LA Clippers bench has been nothing short of excellent so far this season. That trend continued last night.

One game after scoring a season-high 85 points, the LA bench went for 73 against the Washington Wizards. That isn’t what’s so historic, though.

Los Angeles had nine players score at least 10 points last night — which is a new franchise record. Four of the starters recorded double-digit scoring, and five bench players did as well.

The charge was led by Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell, who combined for 30 points in 32 minutes of play. Boban Marjanovic chipped in another 13, Mike Scott went for a season-high 11, and rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 10.

Though he scored the least of the bunch, Gilgeous-Alexander arguably had the best line of the night for Los Angeles. Along with his 10 points, he logged eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. He also finished the night with a game-high +24 plus/minus rating, which has been surprisingly routine for him.

Even still, it wasn’t all-or-nothing for the rest of the Clipper bench, because every single active player scored last night for Los Angeles. Even Jerome Robinson, who hasn’t seen much court time this season, logged four points in seven minutes of action.

Clippers fans can make a legitimate argument about their bench being the league’s best — and with a team this deep, there’s no telling what LA will be able to achieve.
