Writing is on the wall for Jawun Evans and Los Angeles Clippers

After getting few minutes in the Los Angeles Clippers’ first two preseason games, the writing looks to be on the wall for Jawun Evans.

Jawun Evans  has played a grand total of eight minutes in two preseason games for the Los Angeles Clippers. With other young guards getting minutes over him, the writing may be on the wall for Evans.

In those eight minutes, Evans has scored two points, assisted on three plays, grabbed one rebound and picked up four personal fouls. That is not the ideal state line for a young player fighting for a final roster spot.

The depth of the Clippers guard position is well documented. Even if he does manage to make the team, Evans will only see the court in garbage time minutes or if the team is decimated by injury.

His role with the team already looked limited when the franchise drafted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this summer. SGA looks to be the point guard of the future for the Clippers and while Jawun played decently last year, his potential is nowhere near that of Gilgeous-Alexander.

Once the team re-signed Tyrone Wallace earlier this summer, Evans saw his potential role diminished even more.

Now, he is fighting for that final spot and it seems to no avail. In the Clippers win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, Doc Rivers made a point of playing his young guys. Despite the likes of Avery Bradley and Lou Williams not playing, Jawun still only got a few minutes of play time.

It has become apparent that Doc knows what players he likes and that Jawun is going to be the odd man out. It may not even be a slight on Evans, but the teams collection of guards makes it hard for someone who is not bursting with potential to break into the lineup.

With three preseason games left, Evans will need to show something. He may not make the team, but other GM’s are watching and he could still have a place in the NBA.
