The Starter

It was evident that Patrick Beverley would be the starting point guard last season from the moment that the Clippers acquired him as part of the Chris Paul trade. He was coming off of a season where he made the All-Defensive first team and shot 38.2% from three-point range.

Early in the 2017-18 season, Beverley was proving to be everything that Clipper fans hoped he would be. His strong defensive play was on display every night, including a memorable performance against Lonzo Ball. He was shooting an even 40% from deep and was even on track to average a career-high 12.2 points per game.

However, his season was sadly cut short after only 11 games due to a right knee injury. Even though he was not on the court, Beverley’s impact on the team was tangible.

Despite last season’s injury problems, the Clippers seemed to never give up on a game, and many times they simply hustled their way back to victory. Beverley was key to helping establish a new culture of resilience and hard work.

The Clippers handled his status with patience and he began working out again in April. All signs indicate that he is back at 100%.

I expect to see the same Beverley that we saw last season and him paired with Avery Bradley will make up perhaps the best defensive backcourt in the league.
