No. 7: Corey Maggette

Franchise Averages: 17.3 PTS, 5.2 REB, 2.4 AST

Corey Maggette is one of the all-time fan favorite players in LA Clippers history, and it’s easy to see why — the man could play.

Maggette was never named an All-Star in his eight years with the Clippers, though his numbers were impressive enough to warrant a selection. In 2004 (and again in 2007), Maggette scored 22+ points per game, and hauled in at least 5.6 rebounds and dished at least 2.7 assists. What kept him out was the competition he was against — Shawn Marion and Tracy McGrady were always more favorable options.

What Maggette did do, though, was help lead the LA Clippers to one of their most successful seasons of all time.

Led by Elton Brand and Maggette, the Clippers qualified for the 2005-2006 postseason, their first since the 1996-1997 season. With a record of 47-35, it was also the highest win total the franchise had achieved since 1975.

Eventually, the Clippers would lose to the Phoenix Suns in seven games, but it wasn’t really about that. The fact of the matter was the LA Clippers, the NBA’s biggest laughingstock, had proven themselves as a legitimate contender.

The direction and attitude of the franchise hasn’t changed since.
