No. 2: Chris Paul

Franchise Averages: 18.8 PTS, 4.2 REB, 9.8 AST

It isn’t often that a player as good as Chris Paul can have a legacy that can be exemplified by one play. Michael Jordan had The Shot, LeBron James had The Block, and Paul had, well, this:

In that moment, Paul had done what every NBA player hopes to do, and something that no Clipper before him — nor after him — had ever done. With that shot, the defending champion San Antonio Spurs had been knocked off by the lowly Los Angeles Clippers, and the world had seen it happen.

If we were ranking best moments in LA Clippers history, this would be the one. Nothing will ever top it. It’s like one of those things where everyone remembers exactly what was happening when it happened — the clothes they were wearing, the temperature outside, and the overwhelming amount of joy that burst out from within them when the shot fell through the hoop.

CP3 may not be the best player in Clippers history, but he is absolutely one of — if not the — most important players in Clippers history. Without him, there would be no Lob City, and therefore no glory days for all of us to look back on someday.

It’s understandable if the Clippers don’t end up retiring Paul’s jersey, but given the circumstances, it certainly seems well-deserved.
