Los Angeles Clippers: Don’t believe hype regarding Patrick Beverley rumor
Rumors have come out that the Phoenix Suns are discussing trading for the Los Angeles Clippers’ Patrick Beverley. Don’t believe them just yet.
The Phoenix Suns are on the hunt. After many seasons with too many point guards on the roster, the rebuilding franchise is now in desperate need of one. While they search for their solution, many players names have been tossed out including the Los Angeles Clippers’ Patrick Beverley.
Should you believe in any of these rumors that the feisty guard will be on the move? Not just yet.
Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadora reported that the Phoenix Suns have discussed several point guards which includes not only Beverley, but also the Indiana Pacer’s Cory Joseph and the Brooklyn Net’s Spencer Dinwiddie.
But take a look at what he said again. The Phoenix Suns have discussed it. He doesn’t say they have discussed it with the Clippers, nor any of the other teams. Instead, he just says they have discussed it.
Now, call me crazy, but it just sounds to me like the Suns are making a list of players they could target.
Maybe I am being pedantic. Phoenix very well may have kicked the tires on trading for these players, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that any of them are on the move. If you remember back in late August, Phoenix also discussed trading for Damian Lillard, Kemba Walker and Terry Rozier. Obviously, none of those materialized.
Patrick Beverley is a non-guaranteed contract for the Clippers, who currently sit at fifteen guaranteed contracts, three partially/non-guaranteed and two two-way contracts. The team will need to lose a couple of players prior to the start of the season.
Still, there was an implication that Bev is a part of the team’s future as recently as three weeks ago when he was invited to speak at the team’s event, The Playbook Pt. 2.
It’s true that the team took Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the lottery and that the young point guard will be the starter of the future, but he could do well under the tutelage of Beverley. Keeping Bev on this season may make sense, even if it means cutting another youthful player such as Jawun Evans.
I say don’t believe the rumors. There is nothing yet that implicates the Clippers want to move Beverley. Keep checking back here and follow us on Twitter as we monitor these rumors and more.
