Wednesday? More like Wesday
If someone ever asks you to bet on Wesley Johnson having a great performance, consider the following before you agree:
1.) What day of the week is it? If the answer is any day but Wednesday, decline the bet.
This isn’t just some forced pun — Johnson actually plays his best basketball on Wednesday. The numbers back it up.
Per Basketball Reference, Johnson averaged 7.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on Wednesdays this season. His scoring average on that day was the highest of any other, his rebounds were the fourth-highest, and his assists were far and away the highest. He also scored the most total points on Wednesday, despite playing four less games on that day than Saturday, one more than Monday, and two more than Tuesday and Friday.
And then there’s his offensive rating, which measures at a sky-high 119 on Wednesday. The next highest is 115 on Tuesday, followed by 97 on Thursday. From that, we can gather that he peaks in the middle of the week — which, again, the numbers back up, somehow.
This fact, I think, just adds to the enigma that is Wesley Johnson.
As it is, Johnson will never live up to his draft position. Certainly a team wouldn’t use their fourth overall pick on him knowing that this would become his future. However, there’s still a lot of value in him. And that’s just one of the many reasons why Johnson is my favorite member of the LA Clippers.
